One of the surest ways to prevent the debilitating onset of this bone weakening condition is to maintain a strength training program. As you age your muscle mass naturally decreases, dropping as much as 55% by the time you hit 70. This drop in strength makes balance and standing, which you might take for granted now, a challenge as you age. The answer to this common problem is definitely in a regular weight training program so you don't suffer this extreme drop in muscle mass.
Three Reasons You Want a Personal Trainer Who is a Physical Therapist
Maybe when you think of personal trainers your mind immediately conjures up images of Trey from Broad City, a walking mass of muscle spouting inspirational quotes 24/7, or, if you're me, you think of your brother who put himself through college helping people through their morning workouts. In the best case you might think of the Jillian Michaels celebrity trainers who somehow both terrify and motivate their clientele to six pack abs.

Weekend Workout Tips: An Argument for HIIT
HIIT is characterized by short and intense workouts that require intense (110%) effort followed by a brief rest period. It is important to go for the intensity with all of your available effort, don't hold back or save anything for the next round and you'll be working in the "high intensity" realm. These active to rest ratios should be at a 2:1 ratio. Ex: run full out for 30 seconds and jog for 15. These benefits of these workouts is that you can finish one in under thirty minutes and still burn calories throughout your day.

Q: How long should I expect my post-surgical knee replacement physical therapy to last?
A: It's important to remember that your physical therapy will be both about strengthening the joint that was operated on as well as strengthening the muscles around the joint that have likely been weakened by inactivity. This process should take about twelve weeks and depending on your commitment to your rehab program, can be a real joy as you gain movement and strength you probably forgot you ever had. That's not to say there isn't plenty of hard work and pain to work through as well, but it's always nice to keep an eye to the sunny side of the street when you're gearing up for a long recovery time.
